Can I Report an Offensive Ad (Teachers & Racers)

We love the way that advertising allows us to provide our educational tools for free all around the world, and are always fighting to ensure that the advertising displayed on our sites is age-appropriate. We do not pick which individual ads are displayed on our site, but we do work with a number of partners to aggressively block entire market categories that may contain bad ads. If you’ve had an experience with one that slipped through the cracks please report it to us immediately!

In order for our ad partners to quickly block this ad, please right-click on the ad, click 'copy link', and email it to support@nitrotype.com. Also, if possible, include a photo of the ad as you see it on-screen (you can capture a screenshot or take a picture with your phone).

That said, there are a few scenarios in which you might be seeing an inappropriate ad that is beyond our control:

  1. When a computer is shared by multiple users, if one of the users visits a website with adult content, the likelihood that an advertisement containing adult content will be shown on subsequent websites is very high. It’s important to make sure that students have their own profiles on devices and that proper parental content restrictions are in place on that profile to avoid them stumbling on inappropriate content, and thus seeing advertisements for it.
  2. When a computer is infected with a virus or malware, the advertisements shown on any website may be intercepted and changed to be inappropriate content. It’s very important to make sure that all browser plugins and software added to the computer is free from virus’ or malware.
  3. When an advertiser misrepresents the content of their ad. When advertisers upload their ads, they choose which “category” the ad falls under. Sometimes advertisers will choose a category they know is unlikely to be blocked in order to circumvent category blocks. In this case, when the ad is reported to us, we’ll block the individual ad, regardless of category.

We take this issue seriously and would love to know more information about the computer that is displaying these ads. In your email to us, please include a list of all browser plug-ins that are currently installed, we might be able to use this information to combat inappropriate ads.
